Why should I clean my Puppy’s Ears?

What’s the point? My puppy is brand new and has no problem with her ears. Well, it’s just like the importance of cleaning teeth in order to prevent dental disease. Nasty ear infections can see your dog in lots of pain and in severe cases, surgery to remove the infection.

But My Puppy Has Small Ears

It’s not just long eared dogs who get ear infections. Any dog can get an ear infection. Problems arise when your puppy has not been socialised with people examining them. Trust me there is nothing more disheartening for vets if your dog has an ear infection but they cannot look in her ear to diagnose and treat correctly, particularly long eared dogs who’s ears provide ideal conditions for bacteria to grow. So it is important to look in your puppy’s ears every day and if like me, you have a puppy with ears nearly as big as her body, you should use a gentle ear cleaner to clean them every couple of weeks in order to prevent any infections.
